The Seattle Pride Festival is sponsored by Seattle Out and Proud, an organization that coordinates and promotes Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender pride vents in the Seattle area. The festival is in celebration of the present, and as a proud proclamation of what is hoped for in the future. The Seattle Pride Parade is the largest part of the festival which brings in locals as well as travelers to experience a great part of the celebratory weekend.
The mission statement attached to the event is said to create unity, honor diversity, and achieve equal human rights throughout the World. The idea of the Seattle Pride Parade is originally taken from the parades at the start of the gay rights movements in the 1960s, which eventually created an annually monumental event by Seattle Out and Proud. The parade takes hundreds of entries by different groups each year, creating a fun and dynamic parade and atmosphere.
This event calls to family and friends by its warm and compelling environment of love and equality. The parade really makes its mark as the climax of the Seattle Pride Festival.
The theme of the parade this year is "Express Yourself" and will be held on June 26, 2011. As the 37th annual Seattle Pride Parade, this year is predicted to be the most entertaining yet. The parade starts at 4th Avenue & Union street, and proceeds heading north down 4th Avenue to Denny Way.
The Seattle Pride Parade lasts about two and a half hours, and has always been held no matter rain or shine. Come enjoy a colorful parade of proud individuals making their voice heard, in a beautiful and dynamic location well worth admiring.
