Seattle Packing List: Must-Bring Items

Planning a trip to Rain City? You'd better be prepared! Make sure to add these must-have items to your Seattle packing list. Don't let anything rain on your parade.

Seattle Packing List: Must-Bring Items

Aside from having freshest seafood and being the birthplace of Starbucks, Seattle is most famous for its weather. With some of the wettest forecasts in the country, there is one certainty when vacationing in the city nicknamed "Rain City:" plan for rain. So what are the must-haves for your Seattle packing list?

1. An Umbrella:
This almost goes without saying. Try to find something that can be easily stored and is portable enough to carry with you everywhere. You want to be able to keep dry, without having to lug around a cumbersome umbrella all day. There are umbrellas on the market that are affordable, portable, and even attractive. This is one item that should not be left off your packing list.

2. Comfortable Shoes:
If you want to explore the city, you'll need a good pair of walking shoes. These should be something that you are comfortable walking around in. Seattle is very walker friendly and it is easy to spend all day strolling around Pike Place or Chinatown.

3. Extra Socks:
These should definitely make it onto your packing list. Even when the rain stops, and it may, Seattle tends to be very wet and you may find yourself in need of a dry pair of socks.

4. Extra Pants:
If you tend to wear your pants with the hems on the longer side, you may want to add an extra pair or two of pants to that list. Long hems tend to drag on the wet ground and before you know it, you're soaked up to your ankles. Although the grunge look is what's popular in Seattle, it's not particularly pleasant to walk around in wet clothes all day.

5. A Good Jacket:
Every good Seattle packing list should include a warm, waterproof jacket. If you're traveling to Seattle in the winter, this should be more like a winter coat. You won't need a parka in the summer, but even during the warmer months, those evening ocean breezes can get a little chilly and a wind breaker or plastic poncho just won't cut it.

6. A Camera:
Seattle is a beautiful city with lots of fun and interesting sights and attractions. You will definitely want to take pictures. Whether you are an expert photographer or amateur with a disposable, you will want to make sure you have a camera on your Seattle packing list.

7. Canadian Money:
If you're visiting Seattle for a while or you're into exploration, you may just want to venture up to Vancouver. Although most places accept credit cards and even American money, how can you resist carrying a few Loonies and Toonies?

8. Sunscreen:
Just in case, you may also want to bring some sunscreen. We all know how weather can be; if you pack for rain, it will be sunny and if you pack for sun, it will... On second thought, maybe you should leave your sunscreen at home. Who knows? Maybe you'll get lucky!
